I'm peripatetic (in Borneo at the moment) but I'm from New York and spend significant time there every few years.
It's astonishing how many of my friends around the US think that New York is terrifying hell maze.
Part of it is due to political BS, part of it to pre-Giuliani dangers, part of it to all of the TV shows and movies, and much of it to the fact that New Yorkers (like everyone else) talk aboug their problems... bit when New Yorkers talk, the world hears.
Well, not "the world". The world assumes that New York is safer than where they live which, unless they live in Latin America or Africa, isn't the case. But citizens of these United States guzzle up all the information from the 4 sources mentioned and inaccurately infer that it's dangerous when, in fact, it is delightful.
